Some stuff

This semester (as usual) is out to get me.  Bless whomever's in charge that this will be the last one.  All griping aside though, I have a couple of new paintings to show for it (I'm already glaring at Brazil, but Marlfox is still ok in my book).

But now there's only one month left, so what have I got up my sleeve?  Good question.  There's some projects that are trailing along to be completed soon-ish, a couple new things to be started, and some stuff I'm really ridiculously excited for that I won't get an opportunity to work on until after school.

In progress is lots of ceramics work, which I won't have pictures of until after graduation.  Also in progress is my other sculpture work for the semester:

Apparently I really really need a fantasy creature's taxidermy head attached to the wall of wherever I'll be moving to.  He's a good bit farther along than this right now (hoping to start his concrete mold on Monday), and he's been my fun salvation this semester.

On the 'to be started' front, there will be one more painting for my Advanced Styles and Concepts class (looking to illustrate a fairy tale) and a second short story for my writing fiction class.  Which I plan on converting into a web comic as long as I'm happy enough with it once I've completed writing it.  Sci-fi is all I'll say for now, but hopefully I'll be able to digitally play with some character and environment concepts so my head will be in the right place post-graduation.

3D Illustration

Sculpture has always been a side bit of fun for when I got bored with painting or drawing.  As a kid I loved to play in clay and make a general mess of things, and as I grew up, I found out that people liked to customize what I collected (model horses).  I spent years (all through middle and high school) customizing horses of my own.  As a result I built an understanding of depth and anatomy that I would desperately need in college.

As an example to illustrate the model horse customizing, here's one from a couple years ago, before and after:

It wasn't until the past couple of years that I started playing in clay again to create original sculptures, and it's proven to be a wonderful venture.  Unfortunately last year due to some emotional randomness, stressful assignments, etc everything from my 3D illustration class wound up on the back-burner.  I did accomplish the projects on time but things were rushed and I was left unsatisfied.  I rushed ahead at the very end of it all and did a lil orc bust I was fairly pleased with and vowed to do more work over the summer.

Over the summer I did stay pretty productive, with sculpture included (a Redwall ferret bust was posted earlier on this blog if you'd like to go digging).  I also created a piece based off of Slagar the Cruel from Mattimeo by Brian Jacques.  He actually has a little ways to go but he's nearly finished and will be (hopefully!) cast.  I'd like to do several casts and paint up a variety of fox coats and selling most and keeping a couple.

Now that I'm back in school and in 3D illustration once more I'm feverishly working on projects- sculpting is no longer on the back-burner!  First up (and almost complete) is a minotaur runnin' around, being epic 'n stuff.  He'll be cast in class with many many copies, and I'll be offering some painted and some unpainted for sale at the Illuxcon Showcase this year if all goes well.

And just started earlier this week is a fat lil orc guy.  Clearly very early on in his life, but he'll get finished fast.  He'll just be an individual sculpt, no casting or anything.

Hopefully many many more to come this year (already have plans for a centaur).

2012 thus far.

Alright, just going to post a medley of stuff that I've been working on so far.  Will do a more in depth post on a single something or other this weekend!

Sculpture

Up until recently, sculpture has (unfortunately) been on the artistic back-burner.  However, with new personal choices and much more free time it's come back to the forefront of things that I enjoy.  I'm hoping to keep up with a much more productive schedule this summer and next school year when it comes to 3d illustration, and honestly I don't think it's going to be much of an issue.
I did do a decent little blip of sculpture work this past school year but I didn't have the time to take pictures before I left CBus and I didn't have room to bring them back home with me.  The last sculpt I did was a little orc bust that turned out pretty well in my opinion and once I get back to school in a few months I will get pictures of him and previous projects posted.  In the mean time though I just finished another bust of an anthro-ferret dude.  A bit Redwall inspired he was a lot of fun to work on and I'm excited to do more busts in the upcoming weeks.  He also has a removable hat because he's just that cool.

Face Fishing

Complete with fully functioning light-up lamp! Catch those faces and make some gruesome masks to entertain your friends (or something or other whatever you people do with faces).

Well he's finished enough for class but I still have a few bones to pick with him *glares at hands and feet*

He was good practice and quite the entertaining bit of homework.
