Little Red Riding Hood

(if drawings could be ghosts this would be pretty close to how they look...)

Well, it's supposed to be anyway. I've been taking a look at some used nicer cameras and if work works out this summer then hopefully I'll find myself with a dslr. Anywho, things! I did email several artists I admire and one of them got back to me with some really good advice so I'm off and running again trying to do some more illustrative work. I figured keep it simple and go with an easily recognizable classic- Little Red Riding Hood. I've done up several thumbs and think I'm getting close to something I like, just need to resolve a couple of things!

Ok so I was finally reunited with my camera (complete with batteries so close to the verge of death you have to shake them to keep them alive!) and got some pictures of recent sketchbook activity. I miss scanners. But these will do for now:

Gestures of the deer at Forest Lawn (apologies for the not so great quality- really light sketches = bad digital images)

And a hawk!

Gestures from a graduation

Finally finished up that one angel sketch I had going (again apologies for the quality...)
And a couple more splatter things for fun-

That's all from this past week or so- hoping to keep it up! Actually with ArtSlam starting up in just a week over on Live Journal I definitely will be kept busy (which is a very good thing).

Demon a Day (8)

Well kind of....I'm trying to get back on a regular sleep schedule and I'm really liking how this guy's going so I will be finishing him up and doing another demon for tomorrow.

Demon a Day (7)

Not so happy with this one but getting into the habit of painting black and white then doing a bunch of colored overlay layers isn't such a good idea.

Or alien scribbles? I'm not sure which.

Demon a Day (5)

Didn't have any internet (or computer) access yesterday so here's one demon now and a second will be coming up in a couple of hours :)

A demon a day?

Well homework is at an end (for the most part). I do have some personal stuff in the works but I was thinking about just for fun studies and thought going through wikipedia's list o' theological demons would be entertaining. We'll see where this goes!

It's the last week of school. And all my finals were due last week. Ok CCAD, whatever.....But I love winding down to this point and looking back at the start.

hrmmm.....and for comparison a 'sketchbook' piece that was due today for the same class (Illustration Methods)

Note I said sketchbook piece. That first beginning of the year bit of weirdness was a full fledged project that we spent a solid 3-4 weeks on. I like progress.

So what have I learned this year?

*Priorities- should always try and get all of my work accomplished but if a particular class/assignment could push my portfolio further- focus on that.

*Strengths- Play 'em up! Shaping (I've discovered this year) is something I'm good at and enjoy playing with. If you have a strength use it to support your work.

*Materials- Screw you acrylics. We used to be best friends but now you're just mean. Oils are my best buds and ink is pretty radical too.

*Audience- Hello anyone reading this post! The internet is a ridiculously powerful tool to get your name out there. This blog's been a huge stepping stone for my artwork and it's interesting how you can use other sites to get people to look at what you want (tumblr and deviantart come to mind). I've only recently begun using the two mentioned sites and hopefully can use them even more in the future to get some interest.

I think I'll wind down now and continue packing things to go home for the summer....

end of line.

Finishing digital paintings leaves me in a bit of a funk I think. I do rather like working digitally (more so now than before anyway) but when given the option of traditional it currently doesn't stand a chance. I can see that changing somewhat in the future- this time round I really enjoyed how on the computer I learned different things that I can bounce back and forth between traditional or digital pieces (huzzah for learning!)
Either way I finished one of the pieces for Electronic Illus (The Ram) and I'm actually rather proud of how it turned out! Two more to go by Wednesday....
