Landscapes

On that whole 'I suck at landscapes and environments' bit from a week or two ago, decided to play some in painter. Restrictions- most of composition should be an environment and use the color pink for the most part. (My roomie imposed that last one)
I'm not thrilled with it but it still has such a long way to go I shouldn't pass judgment yet.

Personal Projects

It would appear that personal projects are what's keeping me alive this round. Recently had to get everything I've done whittled down into a portfolio for applications and what's at the beginning and end of the portfolio? Personal projects. The first one's actually fairly recent- some creature design in Painter (I'm addicted to Painter now and need to buy it). Will upload the color variations I did up later since they're only on my laptop which just ran out of all its power.

Innit cute though? And after my one teacher's rant today I'm going to keep going on these personal things- up next a movie poster (what movie I have no idea yet....).

Beginning-Now

Everyone starts somewhere, right? Thought I'd throw those in here for fun since this is going to be a sketchbook only entry- all stuff from illustration methods today. Our newest assignment is to design a character/characters and create a narrative 3D illustration. Sooooo....this is a lot of random weirdness and apparently how my brain works.

Which one? Pfffff I don't know. Will figure out tonight and post the schematic when I'm done with it later this week.

It actually wasn't as horrible as I remember.

Future experiments in watercolor are now a foreseeable future....

Fiiiiiigaaaaarroooooooo

I had to.

But hey, poster's done :)
This is actually a good post to talk about something that's been irking me lately- compositions.

Now the original drawing/concept for this poster that I landed on was this:
* yawn *

My most recent and haunting realization about my art and compositions is that they tend to be boring. Really boring. And I know why too. Anyone who knows me knows that I love movies a LOT. I like to think of myself as a film buff to a degree (still a lot I need to see though). Now, cinematography can have some wonderfully exciting things going on, but what am I a sucker for?

Clearly I have a thing for strong horizon lines and a few lonely figures. But why do these scenes look amazing while being watched? Because it's film. It's in motion and that changes almost everything. Now, typing this up I've realized something else. Lone figures and lots of environment can work. Well I'll be damned.

(2001)

I see what you did there Kubrick.
Now that I'm thinking this through more maybe it's not so much compositions as it is environment....bloody hell. Looks like I'll be printing out lots of reference photos here and start playing with landscapes and interiors. Hopefully that will help some. Moving on with life......

Aggravation

Apparently since I've never had a problem with things being stolen from me in the past life's throwing me a bit of a sucker punch. 1st semester- my bike. 2nd semester- my newly repaired Intuos4. Sonuva...... (refraining from several choice words)....
Not that that has a point at all with this post except "ffffffuuuuuu". Here's to hoping my offer of a cash reward makes something turn up or my call to UPS inspires them to refund something.

Anyway...visited the museum today and took some pics of awesome things.

Some pretty amazing stuff! As far as the drawing at museum every day plot welllllll.....the above images are most of the amazing stuff. The coolest room actually has the worst layout so you can't even see half the paintings.

I think life is out to get me.

Balance

So working on Illustration class homework and personal projects while mostly ignoring advertising is working wonders. Who knew?
